What Is Cash Rounding?
Cash rounding is the process of adjusting a transaction total to a nearby increment, most commonly the nearest $0.05, when a customer pays with cash.
For example:
- $10.01 → $10.00
- $10.02 → $10.00
- $10.03 → $10.05
- $10.04 → $10.05
This eliminates the need for pennies and simplifies cash handling during transactions.
How Cash Rounding Works in BPAPOS
Once enabled, cash rounding is automatically applied when completing a cash transaction in the POS.
- The adjustment is reflected when selecting the Exact Amount button
- It is also applied within the Cashout screen

The system calculates the rounded total based on your configured settings and applies it instantly—no manual calculation required.
Rounding Methods Explained
BPAPOS provides flexible rounding methods to match your business preferences:
- Round to Nearest (Recommended):
Automatically rounds up or down to the nearest increment (typically $0.05).
- Always Round Down:
Always rounds the total down to the nearest configured increment. In this case, the business absorbs the small difference.
- Always Round Up:
Always rounds the total up to the nearest configured increment. In this case, the small difference is added to the total paid by the customer.
For most businesses, we recommend setting:
- Round cash payments to: 0.05
- Rounding method: Round to nearest
This approach provides a balanced and widely accepted rounding standard.
Where You'll See Cash Rounding
Cash rounding is consistently tracked and displayed throughout BPAPOS:
- POS checkout screen (Exact Amount & Cashout)
- Customer receipts
- End of Day reporting when posting table sales
- End of Day reporting when closing the cash drawer
- Daily Sales & Tips Report (Cash Rounding total)

This ensures full visibility into how rounding impacts your cash totals.
